1. General Information

Thank you for using Geomodelr. We collect information from our customers in surveys, site registrations, and form your public studies. We want to let you know how we handle that information and use it for security purposes, to improve the content of our web pages and the quality of our service, and is not shared with or sold to other organizations for commercial purposes, except to provide products or services you’ve requested, when we have your permission or under the following circumstances: It is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of Terms of Service, or as otherwise required by law.

We transfer information about you if Geomodelr is acquired by or merged with another company. In this event, Geomodelr will notify you before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

2. Information Gathering and Usage

When you register to Geomodelr we ask for your full name and e-mail. We use your e-mail to help you log-in, for security purposes, to inform you of changes to our policies, pricing or services, and to contact you for marketing purposes and sales purposes. We equally use your full name to address correspondence to you. We also might use your e-mail to corroborate you belong to an academic institution and give you access to certain services only available to the Academic Plan. You can also provide other information as your website, location or company, we also might use that information for marketing and sales purposes.

You can opt out of marketing, but you will not receive information that might be of interest to you, like future webinars and documentation, or get started information, along with other marketing efforts. You will still receive e-mails regarding material changes to terms and conditions and privacy policy.

Our emails might contain a pixel tag, which is a small, clear image that can tell us whether or not you have opened an email and what your IP address is. We use this pixel tag to make our email more effective for you and to make sure we’re not sending you unwanted email. If you prefer not to receive pixel tags, please opt out of marketing emails.

We don’t store any sensitive information, like social security numbers or health records. You might store geographical information and other information related to the projects you are working on. If you use a private study, no one except the people you give access to that information can access it.

We use a third-party provider to store credit card information. This information is used to bill you in the intervals your plan requires. Your credit card data does not pass through our servers. We only store enough information for you to remember the franchise and the last 4 digits of the card number you use to pay our services. All storage and processing of your credit card information is done through Stripe (https://stripe.com), a PCI-Compliant service.

We use Clicky (https://clicky.com) as a third-party tracking service, but we don’t use it to track you individually or collect your User Personal Information. We use Clicky to collect information about how our website performs and how our users, in general, navigate through and use Geomodelr, to improve our navigation an in general our services. This helps us evaluate our users' use of Geomodelr; compile statistical reports on activity; and improve our content and website performance.

3. Cookies

A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a web site's computers and stored on your computer's hard drive. Cookies are required to use the Geomodelr service. We use cookies to record current session information, but do not use permanent cookies. You are required to re-login to your Geomodelr account after a certain period of time has elapsed to protect you against others accidentally accessing your account contents. Geomodelr directly stores the following cookies:

  1. csrftoken: A cookie that prevents cross site request forgery https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-site_request_forgery.
  2. sessionid: A cookie that allows you to log in and use our services with your user.
  3. user_stat: This cookie is set when you create a user but you haven’t validated your e-mail address. Every user is required to validate the e-mail address registered.

Besides the cookies we store, our analytics service also stores cookies, view them here: (https://clicky.com/terms). We also use a chat service so you can receive support right away. This service might store cookies, view them here https://www.zendesk.com/company/customers-partners/cookie-policy/. In case you don’t want to be tracked by any of these services, you can set the do not track policy in your browser (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Not_Track). Geomodelr will still continue to work after that.

If there’s a third-party site embedded using an iframe in one of our pages, like the YouTube® videos in our tutorials, or content embedded in our users’ pages, they might also track you. Embedded iframes might not respect do not track policy.

4. Data Storage

Geomodelr uses third-party vendors to provide the necessary hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology required to run Geomodelr. Although Geomodelr owns the code, databases, and all rights to the Geomodelr application, you retain all rights to your data. The servers are located in the United States of America. Your data will be stored for as long as you continue to be a Geomodelr user or when you ask us to remove it. Some personal data might be present for longer in our backups.

The following providers might store data about you:

  • Amazon, Inc. (AWS): it provices our main servers, storage and databases to provide your services. Some automated e-mails are also sent through AWS.
  • Roxr Software Ltd (Clicky): it provides our analytics services and we use it to know how to improve the service and make better your experience.
  • Zendesk, Inc. (Zopim): it provides the chat at the bottom of the window and might store information you provide to it for support purposes.
  • The Rocket Science Group, LLC (Mailchimp): it stores information about people who want to receive marketing e-mails and updates. You can opt out of this.
  • Stripe, Inc. (Stripe): it stores your payment and information you provide when subscribing to one of our paid plans. We have limited access to this information.

5. Profiling

We might use your behavior to send you marketing information using public studies, the plans you join directly the names of organizations you provide, or your e-mail provides. We profile you to send information that will be of interest to you, or your organization. As an example, we might send groundwater modeling information only to people in the hydrogeologist plan. You can always opt out entirely of marketing.

6. Disclosure

Geomodelr may disclose personally identifiable information under special circumstances, such as to comply with subpoenas or when your actions violate the Terms of Service.

7. How we Communicate with You

We will use your email address to communicate with you, if you've said that's okay, and only for the reasons you’ve said that’s okay. You have a lot of control over how your email address is used and shared on and through Geomodelr. You may manage your communication preferences in your user profile.

8. Questions and Concerns

If you have concerns about the way Geomodelr is handling your User Personal Information, please let us know immediately. We want to help. Any questions or concerns regarding the use or disclosure of your information should be directed to Geomodelr by sending an e-mail to support@geomodelr.com. We will investigate and attempt to resolve complaints and disputes regarding use and disclosure of your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. For complaints that cannot be resolved we have committed to cooperate with data protection authorities located within your country (or their authorized representatives). We will respond within 45 days at the latest.

You can request us to remove or rectify your data, or object to your data usage at any time. In the unlikely event that a dispute arises between you and Geomodelr regarding our handling of your User Personal Information, we will do our best to resolve it. If we cannot, we offer an independent dispute resolution provider at no cost to you.

9. Changes

Geomodelr may periodically update this policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary e-mail address specified in your Geomodelr primary account holder account or by placing a prominent notice on our site.

If Geomodelr, Inc., or substantially all of its assets, were acquired, or in the unlikely event that Geomodelr, Inc. goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of Geomodelr, Inc. may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this policy.

Your use of the Website after the changes have been implemented implicitly expresses your acknowledgement and acceptance of the new Privacy policy. Otherwise, and if the new Privacy policy does not suit you, you must no longer use the Services.
